4th Annual All Pontiac Cruise & Show

Thank you very much for the items you sent to us for distribution at the 4th Annual GTOAA Regional All Pontiac Cruise & Show held in Pontiac, Illinois on September 19th and 20th, 20152015 All Ponitiac Show 2015AllPonitiacShowPontiacIL5 2015AllPonitiacShowPontiacIL3 2015AllPonitiacShowPontiacIL2 and benefiting the Pontiac-Oakland Museum and Resource Center. We very much appreciate your support of the museum and were pleased to hand out copies of your club magazine and award the Membership, T-shirt and CD as door prizes. The fact that our event flyer appears in the Eagle helped result in 55 Firebirds on the show-field Sunday and 12 trophies awarded in the four Firebird/TA classes.

This event has grown steadily since its inception in 2012 to participation by 211 vehicles this year and has become the Pontiac-Oakland Museum’s largest single fund-raising event. We are proud to host this event through GTOAA with the Central Illinois and Windy City GTOAA chapters and commend NFTAC and Firebird/TA owners for your participation and support of the only Pontiac-Oakland Museum in existence.

Mark your calendars for the third weekend in September 2016 for the 5th Annual Event and thanks again for your organization’s support.

Pontiacs of Central California Show

Pontiacs of Central California makes its largest ever donation!

This past September, after two years of planning, Pontiacs of Central California (POCC) hosted the 2014 Pontiac/Oakland Western Regional Convention, at Bass Lake, California. This was the third time POCC has hosted the convention, the two previous being in 2005 and 2008. The club voted then to donate 100% of the net proceeds to charity. Both of those efforts resulted in significant donations. Between those two, a total of $14,000.00 was donated to Wish Upon A Star, an organization that grants wishes to children with catastrophic illnesses.

For 2014 the club voted to again donate 100% of the net proceeds to charity. It was decided to split the donation between two charities; Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central California, and Honor Flight. Honor Flight sends WWII veterans to Washington DC to visit their memorial.

On Thursday December 11th, the club made its largest ever donation, $16,000.00! Our Title Sponsor, Larry Kitahara, owner of Kitahara Buick, Cadillac, GMC of Fresno, generously opened his showroom for the event. He even had it cleared of cars so we could park four classic Pontiacs inside during the ceremony. Also present were our two Co-Title Sponsors; Don Bonander representing Bonander Truck and Trailer Sales of Turlock, and Jerry Fahrney representing The Fahrney Automotive Group of Selma. POCC is extremely fortunate to have three local dealers that are so supportive of us, and their local communities.

The ceremony was opened with remarks by Craig Hansen. Mr. Hansen is the host of Auto Shop Talk, a local radio show, and he generously donated his time to support us. After the opening remarks, POCC was very pleased to present a check for $8,000.00 to Honor Flight. The check was accepted by Mr. Alan Perry, Central Valley Honor Flight Chairman of the Board. The second check for $8,000.00 was accepted by Mrs. Diane Phakonekam, Executive Director of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central California.

Along with our title sponsors, many of our club members took time off work so they could attend the ceremony. We were pleased that several local TV channels sent their news teams to cover the presentation, and that we made the evening news!

Besides these large donations, over the years POCC has dipped into its treasury to make smaller donations to local groups and events that we could help. All members are very proud of the fact that this brings Pontiacs of Central California’s total charitable donations to well over $30,000.00!

A Pontiac Celebration 2014

Warwick, Rhode Island • September 19-21
by Larry Kummer

Once again, as in 2010 and 2012, Pontiacs from throughout the  Northeast U.S gathered at the Warwick, Rhode Island Crowne Plaza for “A Pontiac Celebration,” proving that although our favorite car is gone, our love and enthusiasm for them is not.

But even more than a celebration of our favorite car, hobbyists again showed their generosity as they gave their time, energy and money to support our two children’s cancer charities– the main reason for the event. . . “Pontiacs with a Purpose!” From the 2010 and 2012 shows, we have donated nearly $16,000 to Alex’s Lemonade Stand foundation for childhood cancer and The Tomorrow Fund helping children and families affected by cancer– and we are happy to announce that 2014 did even better!

Beautiful Pontiacs were rolling in as early as Thursday afternoon, with many more arriving on Friday to participate in our “Teddy Bear Cruise” where all cars of the surrounding area are invited to a party with music, food, and plenty of great cars– nearly 150 strong for a beautiful Fall evening.

Saturday’s show day was full of every type of Pontiac you could wish, with numbers climbing to 220 by the end of registration. We thank all the many Pontiac Clubs from throughout the area for spreading the word about the Celebration, and coming out to show their support. Pontiac people are Great!

The evening brought over 150 people together to visit and enjoy a tasty BBQ dinner followed by awards. There were many fine Pontiacs earning rewards for their hard working owners– congratulations to all. Top honors for capturing the Peoples’ Choice, as well as the Celebration Committee Choice, awards was Jeff Goldstein with a fantastic 1961 Ventura.

Trans Am/All Pontiac Run 2014

by Ben Deutschman

EDISON N.J. TO FLEMINGTON N.J.

The 2014 Trans Am/All Pontiac Run went off as scheduled this year on July 12, 2014, unlike last year. Thanks to help from my partner Steve Reed, flyers were spread far and wide, and we also found a number of new outlets on the Web to publicize through, such as AutoMouth.com, Northeast Wheels, CarShowHQ.com, OldRide.com, CarShowNationals.com, just to name a few.

Another factor that certainly helped bolster participation levels this year, was beautiful sunny weather, with warm, but not intolerable temps.

The total number of cars gathering at the Edison McDonalds was 23, and while they didn’t join us for the ride, um, might have had a little problem keeping up, technically it was 24, if one included the mini replica Firebird, powered by a Lawn Mower engine.

At approximately 3:30 P.M. our entourage departed the McDonalds, and we headed out on to Rt 1. From our departure point we cruised for about 10 miles on Rt 287, then a short hop on Rt 22, and finally a nice long drive down Rt 202 South. Most of the trip was pleasant, and without incident, until we reached the halfway point on Rt 202. Unfortunately, one of our participants had an issue with a Starter wire a that grounded out, and though help from fellow Run participants got the problem taken care of, the fellow and his friends opted not to chance going the rest of the way to Flemington. An understandable decision, given the late hour we would depart the end destination of the Run.

With hopes high that our troubles were over, and good times lay ahead, the rest of us continued on to our destination, arriving in Flemington around

4:30 P.M., where our Host of the event Steve Mamackus of ‘Kroozin Productions’, ushered us in to our reserved parking area. Of course we figured we were home free at that point in our journey, but alas, trouble raised its ugly head again, as one of our participants, with a pristine 1964 Tempest, struck a retaining wall, while backing into his parking space.

The rest of the evening went well, no more incidents, or accidents, and ALL who remained, were treated to Goodie Bags packed by Steve Reed, with items from the National Firebird Trans Am Club, Hagerty Classic Insurance, and others, a drawing for giveaway gifts care of the Goodguys Car Club, and Rock Auto, plus the awarding of two trophies, Best Pontiac and Best Trans Am, selected by participant balloting, using our low tech Raffle/giveaway tickets as the Ballots.

2013 New Jersey Trans Am Run

by Ben Deutschman

The very much delayed, and thanks to the tireless efforts of Steve Reed in finding us a destination point for a rescheduled NJ Trans Am/All Pontiac Run for 2013, the event finally took place on October 19, 2013. Our Event helper, Steve, also very thoughtfully donated some Hagerty Goodie Bags, to which we added a sample copy of the National Firebird and Trans Am Club’s Club magazine, and an application for membership in the NFTAC.

Unfortunately, one thing neither Steve nor I (Ben Deutschman) could control was the weather, and though unlike the July date, when it poured, on the 19th of October, it was mostly cloudy, with only a possibility of light rain, late in the day. Of course, understandably, even the hint of foul weather kept many participants from joining us, and so we had only eight Pontiacs in our caravan this year. What the Run may have lacked in numbers, it made up for in enthusiasm and fun, with all involved, from the youngest, to the oldest, having a good time.

Once at our destination we put together a balloting system, thanks to my Son Martin, and each participant had the opportunity to pick their favorite Pontiac overall and also their favorite Firebird.

After everyone was done eating, our next item on the agenda was to award the two trophies to the “Best Pontiac”, and Best Firebird”, determined by the earlier balloting. After the Trophies were awarded, the tickets were put back into a Coffee Can, and the kids were given the opportunity to randomly pick tickets, which were then used to award the giveaway items donated by Ames Performance Engineering, the National Firebird Trans Am Club, and Hagerty Classic Insurance. Of the many nice prizes given away, one lucky winner received a free, one year membership in the National Firebird Trans Am Club, donated of course by the Club.

With a light rain beginning to fall, the festivities ended around 6:30 P.M., and we all beat a hasty retreat towards home. Hopefully the weather will be nicer in 2014, and when the event takes place on July 12, 2014, we’ll have a better participant turnout.

Naperville Crossing 3rd Annual Car Show

Naperville Crossing’s 3rd annual Car & Custom Bike Show located in Naperville, Illinois was very well attended last year with close to 200 cars and is fast becoming the best venue in the Chicagoland Car Show circuit! Dash plaques were given to the first 100 entries and over 75 very nice and large trophies were awarded! The venue is great with a huge clean parking area with Rt. 59 frontage and many many great places to enjoy breakfast and lunch. There are always many spectators well. The show is held on the Monday of Labor Day weekend. Plan to join us for a good time and a great show in 2014!

A Pontiac Celebration 2012

For the second time, “A Pontiac Celebration” in Warwick, Rhode Island drew Pontiac lovers from throughout the Northeastern United States for a fun filled weekend to enjoy the cars and people of our great hobby. As by design, this “Celebration” is to showcase the great cars that we love so much, and to perpetuate the hobby by sharing them with everyone. Pontiac Clubs of all stripes are invited, and together bring a mixture representing every era and type of Pontiac from throughout the 84 years of Pontiac’s colorful history.

But, beyond the obvious fun of enjoying all these great Pontiacs, and visiting with all the dedicated people who bring these pieces of iron to life, “A Pontiac Celebration” reaches out beyond the hobbyplace and pulls all the members of our community together for an even greater cause– helping the fight against childhood cancer. Once again everyone rallied together and with all their energy we were again able to donate thousands of dollars to the two children’s charities we support: Alex’s Lemonade Stand foundation for childhood cancer and The Tomorrow Fund helping children and families affected by cancer.

With show costs held as low as we possibly can, and not one penny going to anything beyond actual costs of services, we bring a family-style event to everyone, and they answer with their generosity in donations and purchases that support the charities.

Saturday morning dawned a little on the hazy side, but all reports had been for sunshine throughout the day. And by mid-morning the clouds burned off, and the sun came peaking out for a wonderful show day. Registration stayed busy as new arrivals continued through the morning.

Meanwhile out on the show field the crew was busy checking everyone in and getting them to their assigned spots. But it didn’t take long for the relaxed atmosphere of a beautiful day and a bunch of even more beautiful Pontiacs to fill the air. Besides people prepping their own cars, they strolled the grounds and visited with many more who where also enjoying the day. Cruisin’ Bruce Palmer entertained everyone with great music and took care of all the announcements for seminars, raffles, etc. He did a great job helping keep everything organized and flowing smoothly.

As the show day wound to a close, and participants hurried about to get their voting ballots turned in, preparations began for the evening BBQ banquet dinner and the awards presentations. Once again our theme of casual and family fun prevailed as friends and families gathered in the atrium and the room became a-buzz with discussions of the day, and no doubt predictions of winners from the very competitive show. It was apparent, however, from everyone’s smiles and laughter that all considered themselves a winner.

Following a great meal, Rick DiGiacomo introduced special guests and speakers, and then again with the help of Cruisin’ Bruce Palmer, set right to the much anticipated announcements of the car show winners. It was no small job to select specific cars to award out of so many great entrants.

In addition to the show classes, we had a number of Specialty Awards given out in specific categories. New for 2012 was the “Kid’s Choice Award” given out in special memory of longtime Pontiac hobbyist Ken Deming from Massachusetts. We were so fortunate to have Ken attend A Pontiac Celebration in 2010, but sadly lost him soon after. Our special thanks to Noel and Starr Evans from Connecticut who helped Ken so much, and helped make this special award possible. Enjoying, and sadly remembering, the people of this Pontiac hobby is what helps make it so special.

The evening ended with a promise to come together again in 2014 for another Pontiac Celebration– Eastern Regional Meet. We are happy to again report that we were able to donate many thousands of dollars to our two children’s cancer charities. . . all from the wonderful Pontiac hobbyists who not only enjoy their special cars, but use them to help an even greater cause. Our sincere thanks to all who attended, and enjoyed themselves. You have our promise of an even better time in 2014.

Following you will find a display of all our great Show Sponsors who help make this event possible. Please consider these businesses first when you need something for your hobby. There is also a listing in another article of the many show winners who we congratulate for their accomplishments. Once again PontiacRegistry.com is happy, and proud, to host such an event for such a worthwhile purpose. Our thanks to all who helped make “A Pontiac Celebration – 2012” a huge success. See you all in 2014!
